LEAP Thanksgiving Pie Drive

LEAP ran another successful collaborative pie drive where they gathered pie orders throughout the month of November to raise money for local and global charities. As a whole they ended up baking 265 Apple, Pecan, or Pumpkin pies, raised $2,800.00 and donated over 50 pies to Stamford Life Works. Half the money raised from the pie drive will be going to three different organizations within Connecticut, while the other half will support travel for the group’s global partners with FAFU, Kibera Kenya and LEAD Uganda, Kampala. Throughout the past 10+ years, LEAP has donated over $15,000 and pies to Person-to- Person, AmeriCares, Domus, St. Luke’s Life Works, Operation Smile, L.E.A.D. Uganda, local children’s hospitals, American Red Cross, Cross Cultural Thresholds, and China Cares. The students in the group worked tediously and thank the following stores for their thoughtful donations to make the pie drive a success: Shop and Shop in Darien, CT, who donated most of the ingredients, Trader Joes in Darien, CT, Whole Foods in Darien, CT, and Greenwich, CT, Stew Leonard’s in Norwalk, CT, Rosies in New Canaan, CT, Food Emporium in New Canaan, CT, and Aspatuck Valley Applebarn in Easton, CT. The pie drive also runs at Nobles in Boston and is happy to report a very successful effort. They donated 100 pies to the Single Parent Family Outreach Center and for the first time, they also donated pies to the Dedham Food Pantry/Dedham Youth Commission. Finally, they beat last year’s dollar total with a $2,460 donation to Rosie’s Place from pie sale proceeds.
